BENEFITS:
Medical Insurance for International Students provides coverage for reasonable and customary costs incurred in case of an emergency up to lifetime maximum of $1,000,000.
Hospital accommodation (semi-private room) up to 60 days per sickness or injury.
Physician services.
Diagnostic Services: Laboratory tests and X-ray prescribed by the attending physician due to an emergency. ( MRI, CAT scans, sonograms, ultrasounds or biopsies have to be pre-approved by Global Excel)
Private Duty Nurse - up to $10,000 per sickness or injury.
Ambulance services.
Prescription Drugs - limited to a 30-day supply per prescription.
Medical appliances - rental of crutches, casts, splints, canes, slings, trusses, braces, walkers and wheelchairs. Up to $200 for prescription glasses or contact lenses and up to $300 for hearing aids, when required after an emergency for which hospitalization was required.
Professional services - up to $500 per professional service of speech therapist, chiropractor, physiotherapist, osteopath, naturopath, acupuncturist, chiropodist or podiatrist.
Annual Medical Examination: when a minimum of 180 days of coverage has been purchased, up to $100 for one examination and related laboratory tests/up to $100 for one consultation for the prescription of the 'morning after pill'
Maternity: up to $1,000 for pregnancy or complications thereof (excludes childbirth and voluntary interruption of pregnancy)/ the pregnancy must start after the effective date of the insurance.
Eye Examination: when a minimum of 180 days of coverage has been purchased, up to $100 for an eye examination by an optometrist or an ophthalmologist.
Psychologist: up to $500 non emergency outpatient consultation.
Accessibility Corrective Device, Malfunction and Theft Protection: up to $1,000 to replace or repair a corrective device.
Accidental dental of up to $4,000 in case of accident.
Emergency dental for relief of pain - up to $600 (when a minimum of 180 days of coverage has been purchased).
Wisdom Tooth: up to $100 per tooth for the extraction of wisdom teeth.
Emergency air transportation when arranged with Global Excel.
Psychiatric Treatment: up to $10,000 when admitted to hospital, and up to $1,000 for outpatient consultations.
Trauma Counselling: 6 sessions within 90 days after emergency treatment.
Emergency Treatment Outside Canada: provided at least 51% of the period of coverage is spent in Canada (Visits to the United States are limited to 30 days)
Family transportation and Subsistence Allowance: up to $5,000 for single round-trip economy airfare for one immediate family member including $150 per day to a maximum of $1,500 for meals and commercial accommodations if you are hospitalized for 7 days or more.
Return to the Country of Origin: up to $5,000 for one-way economy airfare for return to the country of origin for immediate medical care.
Return of remains -$10,000 for preparation and transportation to the country of origin; or up to a maximum of $5,000 for cremation and/or burial at the place of death.
Accidental Death & Dismemberment: Up to $10,000 for accidental loss of life, limb or sight.
Air Flight/Common Carrier Accident: up to $100,000 in case of death.
EXCLUSIONS:
AGE LIMITS: Students must be 65 years old or less.
PRE-EXISTING CONDITIONS: Any sickness, injury or medical condition for which your had symptoms, hospitalization, taken medication or medical procedure at any time in the 90 days prior to your effective date.
OTHER EXCLUSIONS:
- Once you are deemed medically stable, your emergency is considered to have ended and you are no longer eligible for coverage for recurrence or complication related to the same condition.
- All benefits are limited to Reasonable and Customary cost.
- Alcohol or drug abuse is not covered.
- Mental, emotional or psychological disorder.
- Participation in any professional sports or racing and speed contest.
CLAIMS:
In the event of hospitalization, you must call Global Excel within 48 hours of admission: 1-800-715-8833 toll free from Canada and U.S. or 819-566-8839 collect call from anywhere. Do not assume that someone will contact Global Excel on your behalf. It remains your responsibility to ensure that Global Excel has been contacted within 48 hours of admission. Failure to do so limits benefits to 80% of eligible expenses.
You must report in writing to Global Excel within 30 days of the accident or sickness. Send a completed claim form and all original bills, invoices and receipts within 90 days from the date a claim arises. All documents have to be mailed to:

If you prefer to submit your complaint in writing, please send it to the attention of the Quality Assurance department at: 73 Queen Street, Sherbrooke, Quebec J1M 1J3. You will receive acknowledgement within 72 hours of our receiving it.
All complains, arbitration or similar proceeding against ETFS have to be filed no later than one year (two in the Northwest Territories, three years in the province of Quebec) after the date the insurance money became payable.

ELIGIBILITY:
The applicant must be:
a student completing post-doctorate research in recognized Canadian institution of learning.
less than 65 years old
Not be eligible for a provincial or territorial government health insurance in Canada.
Be in a good heath and know of no reason to seek medical attention.
The applicant’s spouse and child(ren) may be covered if the appropriate premium is paid.
REFUNDS:
Full refund if requested before the effective date. A partial amount (less administration fee of $25 per insurance policy) if terminated because you permanently leave the recognized Canadian institution of learning; or you permanently return to your country of origin; or you become eligible for a provincial or territorial government plan, and no claim has been incurred. Request for refund must be made in writing to your insurance broker.
No refunds for amounts less than $10.
EXTENSIONS:
Available if you are in good health, no claim has been submitted and if requested before the expiry of the policy (no more than 10 days prior to the expiry date)
Note: Sickness or injury which first appeared, was diagnosed or received treatment prior to the effective date of the insurance extension will NOT be covered.
SIDE TRIPS:
Temporary visit to another country (excluding your country of origin) are covered, provided you spend at least 51% of your trip duration in Canada.
