BENEFITS:
Hospital & Medical Coverage: Semi-private hospital accommodation and reasonable and customary services and supplies necessary during confinement as a resident in-patient.
Physicians, surgeons, anesthetists and registered graduate nurse.
Diagnostic Treatments: Lab tests and X-ray examinations ordered by a physician.
Private duty services of a registered nurse.
Ambulance Transportation: Local land ambulance.
Medical Appliance: Rental of crutches or hospital-type bed and the cost of splints, trusses, braces or other prosthetics.
Professional Medical Services - care received from a licensed physiotherapist, osteopath, chiropodist, podiatrist or a doctor of chiropractic. The treatment must be ordered by the attending physician and pre-approved by TIC. The maximum covered cost is $1,000 for out-patient treatment.
Prescription drugs or medications, 90-days supply. Prescription drugs and medications are covered in full when the insured is hospitalized.
Physical Examination: one routine annual examination by a physician up to a maximum of $200 after the policy has been in effect for 6 consecutive months (not subject to any deductible). Purchase of 365-day period of coverage is required to be eligible for this benefit.
Maternity Benefit: When the expected delivery date is more than 10 months after the effective date, TIC will pay 80% of the costs per pregnancy incurred by the mother and the newborn as the result of pregnancy, childbirth or complications, up to a total of:
- $5,000 for normal childbirth; or
- $7,500 for caesarean section; or
- $25,000 for medical complications related to childbirth.
New-borns can be fully covered from 15 days of age following written approval by TIC.
Eye Examination - one routine annual examination by an optometrist.
Accidental Dental: Up to $3,000 for repair or replacement of whole or sound natural teeth damaged by an accidental blow to the face.
Dental Emergencies: Up to $500 for the immediate relief of acute dental pain.
Funeral Expenses: In the event of death from covered condition, up to $10,000 is provided to return the body home country, or up to $4,000 for cremation or burial at the place of death.
Emergency Transportation: The cost for air ambulance, one-way economy airfare or stretcher to transport you to your country of origin, and a medical attendant if required, when necessary continuing medical care is required and is not covered under the policy..
Return Home: Up to $3,000 for the cost of one-way economy transportation to your country of origin if the covered sickness or injury necessitates your immediate return home during the period of coverage. Includes one additional insured family member.
Psychiatrist: Up to one hour per week to a maximum of 10 visits in any consecutive 12-month period provided the policy has been in effect for at least 6 months. The service has to be referred in writing by a physician and approved by TIC.
SELECT PLAN includes all the benefits listed under the Basic Plan as well as the following:
Accidental Death & Dismemberment: Up to $10,000 for accidental loss of life, limb or sight.
Bedside Companion: Up to $3,000 for round-trip economy transportation to bring a family member or close friend to your bedside, and up to $1,000 for costs incurred after arrival.
Attendant: Up to $500 for an attendant (not related to you) to care for any family members (under age 18, or reliant on you for assistance), if you are hospitalized for 48 hours or more.
Vaccinations: Up to $100 annually for vaccinations, after 6 months of continuous coverage. One year coverage must be purchased to qualify for this benefit.
EXCLUSIONS:
Your coverage is subject to various exclusions, which are completely set out in the Exclusions section of the policy document. The following, although not an exhaustive list, are some of these exclusions:
AGE LIMITS: To be eligible for coverage a person must be at least 15 days old. Maximum period of coverage is 365 days.
WAITING PERIOD For illness: Any sickness for which symptoms occurred within 48 hours of the effective date if the policy has been purchased AFTER your arrival in Canada. No waiting period if the application for this insurance is completed PRIOR to your arrival in Canada or before the expiry date of the existing TIC Visitors to Canada policy.
PRE-EXISTING CONDITIONS: Any sickness, injury or medical condition that exhibited symptoms for which a diagnosis need not have been made or required any or all of: medical consultation, prescription medication, medical treatment or hospitalization prior to the effective date.
OTHER EXCLUSIONS:
- Any sickness or injury where the trip is taken to get medical treatment or advice for such injury or sickness.
- Loss, death or injury that is contributed to by the abuse of drugs, alcohol or any other intoxicant.
- Any injury or sickness, or state of health which, prior to the effective date of coverage, was such as to render expected medical treatment or hospitalization.
- Any rehabilitation or convalescent care.
- Naturopathic, holistic or acupuncture treatment.
- Emotional, mental or nervous disorders, except as specifically provided under Psychiatrist benefit.
- For temporary residents in Canada with coverage under a Basic Plan: treatment which can be reasonably delayed until the insured returns to their country of origin (whether or not they intend to return).
- For returning Canadians and landed immigrants awaiting coverage under a government health insurance plan: treatment which can be reasonably delayed until the insured's government health insurance plan takes effect.
- For an insured with coverage under a Basic Plan: any treatment, investigation or hospitalization which: a) is a continuation of or subsequent to an inpatient hospitalization, or b) exceeds 30 days following the initial day that necessary outpatient treatment of a covered sickness or injury began, unless approved in advance by TIC.
- Injury resulting from training for or participating in speed contests in excess of 60 km per hour, professional sport activities, or organized motor sport contests.
- Act of war, kidnapping, act of terrorism caused directly or indirectly by nuclear, chemical or biological means; riot, strike or civil commotion, unlawful visit in any country, participation in protests, participation in armed forces activities or a commercial sexual transaction or the commission or attempted commission of any criminal offence, contravention or any statutory law or regulation in the area where the loss occurred by the insured, a family member or travelling companion.
- Any loss incurred in the U.S.A. if coverage is purchased for Worldwide excluding the U.S.A. only, except for loss due to acute emergency hospital and other covered emergency costs due to sickness or injury occurring during the period of coverage while the insured is travelling in transit through U.S.A. for a period of up to 5 days.
IN THE EVENT OF AN INJURY OR SICKNESS, TIC EMERGENCY ASSISTANCE MUST BE NOTIFIED PRIOR TO ANY MEDICAL CONSULTATION OR ANY SURGERY BEING PERFORMED, OR WITHIN 24 HOURS OF ADMISSION TO A HOSPITAL. FAILURE TO DO SO, WITHOUT REASONABLE CAUSE, WILL RESULT IN THE REDUCTION OF ELIGIBLE BENEFIT AMOUNTS PAYABLE BY 20%.
CLAIMS:
- To apply for benefits, complete the claim form and include all original bills. Incomplete forms will cause delay.
- Claims must be reported within 30 days of occurrence.
- Written proof of claim must be submitted within 60 days of occurrence.
- For Accidental Death & Dismemberment Benefits include also: 1. Police report; 2. Coroner’s report; 3. Death certificate.

FAQ:
Who is eligible for this insurance?
Coverage is available to persons 15 days and above who are not eligible for benefits under a Canadian government health insurance plan. Such persons must be either:
- a non-Canadian citizens residing in Canada;
- a Canadian citizen returning to reside in Canada and awaiting coverage under a government health insurance plan; or
- a Canadian citizen residing outside of Canada; or
- a non-Canadian citizen residing outside of their country of origin while employed by a Canadian company.
Are the premiums refundable?
Refunds are payable:
- 100% if the policy is cancelled during the 10 day examination period.
- 100% - $10 administration fee if cancelled after 10 day examination period and before the effective date of the policy
- After the effective date of the policy are possible partial cancellations in case the insured returns to their country of origin 30 days or more prior the expiry date and has no claims or other loss. Partial cancellations are charged a $25 administration fee. Premiums less than $10 will not be refunded.
Are there age limits?
Coverage is available for persons from 15 days to 79 years.
I want to stay longer. Can I extend my coverage?
Yes, you can subject to policy terms and conditions. Just call your agent or TIC prior to the expiry of your policy. You must be in good health and not have incurred any losses with TIC. If you apply for 5-year plan option in the beginning, you will guarantee your renewals up to 5 years.
Are there any discounts?
Yes. There are optional deductibles for premium savings:
$500 deductible........................savings 5%
$1,000 deductible.....................savings 10%
$5,000 deductible.....................savings 30%
$10,000 deductible...................savings 40%
$25,000 deductible...................savings 45%
(Deductibles are in US dollars for the Including U.S.A. option and in Canadian dollars for the Excluding U.S.A. option.)

- All options offer coverage worldwide except options excluding U.S.A. which covers transit through the U.S.A. for up to 5 days.
